Podcasting in the Classroom

podcamp

It's always a pleasure to meet listeners, and also to find out how our stories are heard. At a get-to-gether of podcasters (those of us who post audio and video on the internet), I ran into Mr. Harrington, a teacher from Wales who uses Storynory in his classroom. Apparently, the children are allowed to listen to a story as a reward for finishing an assignment ! Of course we love that idea. Members of Mr. Harrington's class also make their own podcasts, and children as young as eight years old do their own audio editing using a free program called Audacity.

There was an inspiring talk from another teacher, Mr. Dale, whose uses podcasting to enthuse his French class. The children make an audio program using new phrases and bits of grammar that they've just learned. It's a brilliant idea and helps encourage the children to start helping and teaching each other.

And representing Scotland, which is very much a leader in this sort of thing, was Mr. Noble, whose fortnightly podcast can be heard here.
