Marylebone Boys’ School

Just thought you might like to know that Storynory’s editor, Hugh Fraser, is working hard at the moment to set up a new free school in the centre of London. He’s working with a group of like-minded parents and residents in the area . It will be called Marylebone Boys’ School and yes, you guessed it, it will be a boys’ school. (There is a shortage of secondary school places for boys in central London).

Free Schools are funded by the British state, and must receive approval from The Department for Education. Applying is a huge task, but is bringing us into contact with all sorts of leading educationalists, and hopefully some of what we learn will feed back into Storynory.

Our school will be a traditional school that we see as the spiritual successor to St Marylebone Grammar School, which was closed down in the early 1980s. We will emphasise English and Maths and our curriculum will include both Philosophy and Latin. We will also have loads of Science.

Central London is a challenging area for schools – 65% of pupils do not have English as a first language at home. But we believe that a comprehensive intake can achieve great results for all – and we are going to do our very best to prove it !

This is the best news for myself and my ‘almost’ 10year old son. We live in central London and are already having the worry of where he will go to secondary school. I have 2 daughters. My eldest went to Marylebone girls and i am hoping that is where my youngest will attend too.
    Good luck Hugh. Amazing.
