A pair of trainers go for a run and are chased by a dog.A small story read by Bertie (just for a change). Written by Bertie.

Just in case you don’t know, “trainers” is the word we use in Britain for sports / running shoes.  They might be called “sneakers” in American English (or so I’m told).

A pair of trainers went for a run.

They slipped out of the cupboard, crept through the front door, and jogged down the road.

Left, right. Left, right. Left, right.

They stopped by the post office to chat to a pair of high-heeled shoes.

“Nice day for a run,” said the right heel.

“We go out every day, rain or shine,” said the left trainer.

And off they went to the park.

Left, right. Left, right. Left, right.

In the park, they ran around the lake.

Once Twice Thrice

Then—

“Woof!”

A dog was chasing them.

They jogged faster.

THEN they ran.

Left, right! Left, right!  Left, right.

Then they sprinted.

Left! Right! Left! Right!  Left, right!

The dog was right behind them. Closer. And Closer. And Closer!

His paws were thundering.

Thud-thud! Thud-thud! Thud-thud!

His breath was puffing.

Huff! Huff! Huff!

His nose almost touched their laces.

So one trainer shot left.

Left! Left! Left!

And the other trainer dashed right.

Right! Right! Right!

The dog skidded to a halt.

A whistle blew.

“Here, boy!”

The  galloped back to his owner.

The trainers crept out from bushes and met at the playground.

They slid down the slide.

They swung high on the swings. They went round and round on the merry-go round.

Back at the house, Mum was calling, “Benny, let’s get some fresh air. Go and put your trainers on.”

Benny looked in the cupboard.

Not there.

Mum peered under the bed.

Not there.

They emptied his school bag.

Not there.

“Oh, Benny, where have you left them?” asked Mum.

Just then, the front door clicked.

The trainers padded in.

“There they are!” said Benny.

He pulled them on.

And off they went to the park.

Left, right. Left, right. Left, right.
