iTunes: Set Podcast Preferences

Here's the answer to a question that we are frequently asked by listeners : how do you set iTunes Podcast Preferences? Well more exactly people ask something like "Why isn't iTunes keeping my back episodes of Storynory?" or "How do you make iTunes download all the stories from your iTunes page?" The answer to these questions is one of the hidden secrets of iTunes.

iTunes First of all, you need to find the preferences dialog. Look along the top bar and click the far left label that says "iTunes". The picture shows iTunes on a Mac, but it should be similar on Windows. (Yes, iTunes is available for Windows - that answers another frequently asked question).

Click the 'Apple" tab and select preferences. This brings up the preferences dialog that we've been searching for. Now you need to choose the "podcasts tab' from the dialog.iTunes 2

This allows you to set options for how often iTunes checks for new episodes (every hour, every day, every week, or manually). If it's set to "manually" that would explain matters if you aren't catching Storynory automatically.

It also allows you to download all the episodes, download the latest, or do nothing.

Finally there are a variety of options for how many episodes it should keep - ranging from all, to just the unplayed ones, the most recent, or the last 2-10. This setting is the place to look for questions about iTunes keeping or not keeping our stories.

Hope this tip helps. There will be a few more iTunes tips coming up.
